KitchenAid is the premium-positioned cooking and built-in appliance brand within the Whirlpool family. KitchenAid uses Whirlpool's underlying platforms but with better finishes, more convection options, and pro-style ranges. Best known in kitchens for ranges, dishwashers, and refrigeration. Modern KitchenAid appliances typically last 12–15 years with normal use.

01 · About

About KitchenAid

KitchenAid (founded 1919) is owned by Whirlpool Corporation and positioned as Whirlpool's premium kitchen brand. The KitchenAid name is synonymous with the iconic stand mixer; in appliances, the brand competes in pro-style ranges (Architect Series II, Commercial-Style), built-in refrigeration, premium dishwashers, and wall ovens. Mechanically, KitchenAid often shares chassis with Whirlpool models, but with upgraded finishes, sometimes stainless steel tubs (dishwashers), and convection cooking standard on most models.

02 · Common issues

Issues we often see on KitchenAid appliances

These are the failures owners report most often. We service the full range of repairs on KitchenAid — these are just the most frequent.

  1. 01

    F-codes (shared platform with Whirlpool)

KitchenAid uses the same F-code system as Whirlpool. F1 = control board, F8 = water inlet, F9 = drain pump, etc. Telling us the code at booking time often lets us arrive with the right part.

  2. 02

    Pro-style range igniter failures

KitchenAid pro-style gas ranges (Commercial-Style) have multiple high-output burners with their own igniters. When one fails, the symptom is clicking-without-light on that burner only. Igniters are routine replacements; pro-style burner systems just have more of them.

  3. 03

    Built-in fridge ice maker

KitchenAid built-in fridges (KBSD / KBFN families) inherit the broader French-door industry weakness around ice makers. Fill tube freezing, ejector motor failures, and ice maker assembly failures are common. Routine to diagnose and replace.

  4. 04

    Dishwasher heating element

KitchenAid dishwashers with stainless tubs use a sheathed heating element on the bottom that's exposed to direct contact with utensils and racks. Damage over years (chipped sheath, eventual short) leads to no-dry-cycle or in some cases tripped GFCI. Element replacement is straightforward.

  5. 05

Architect Series II oven door hinges

Wall ovens (KOST / KODE families) have heavy doors supported by tensioned hinges. Hinge failure shows up as a door that drops on its own or won't open all the way. Routine replacement.

06 · Parts

Parts & repair notes for KitchenAid

KitchenAid parts are widely available and share the Whirlpool parts catalogue extensively. Pricing is generally a small step up from Whirlpool ($10–30 more on common parts), reflecting the premium positioning. Pro-style range parts (Commercial-Style burner assemblies, brass caps) can be more specialty and occasionally need ordering. Built-in refrigeration parts share with the Whirlpool catalogue, so availability is good.

08 · FAQ

Common questions

Specific to KitchenAid repair.

Why does my KitchenAid range igniter click but not light?
Most common cause: a wet or misaligned burner cap (especially right after cleaning the cooktop). Lift the cap, dry it underneath, reseat it. If clicking continues without ignition, the spark module or burner head may need replacement.
Why is my KitchenAid dishwasher cycle taking 3+ hours?
Modern energy-efficient dishwashers (KitchenAid included) run longer at lower water temperatures and use less water than older models. 90 minutes to 3 hours is normal for a 'normal' or 'eco' cycle. If yours used to be faster and isn't anymore, that's a different issue — likely the heating element or temperature sensor.
How long should a KitchenAid range last?
13–17 years typically. Pro-style Commercial-Style ranges often last 18–22+ years with maintenance — the heavier construction outlasts the electronics.
How do I find the model number on my KitchenAid range?
On most KitchenAid ranges, the model number is on a sticker inside the storage drawer (lift the drawer out) or behind the kick panel at the bottom. On wall ovens, it's inside the door frame (visible when the door is open). A photo works — we just need to read it.
Do you service KitchenAid built-in column fridges?
Yes — built-in column fridges are a specialty service. Pulling them for access takes longer than freestanding fridges, and we bring panel-safe tools to avoid scratching cabinetry.
Can my old KitchenAid mixer be repaired?
We don't service stand mixers — those are small appliances and outside our scope. KitchenAid has authorized small-appliance repair partners; check kitchenaid.ca for the nearest one. We service KitchenAid major appliances (ranges, dishwashers, fridges, etc.) only.
Why does my KitchenAid dishwasher leave dishes wet?
Most often the heating element has failed (no dry cycle heat) or the rinse aid is empty. KitchenAid dishwashers use the heating element during the final rinse to dry dishes. Check rinse aid first; if full, the element is likely the issue.
Are KitchenAid parts more expensive than Whirlpool?
Slightly — typically $10–30 more for shared parts (because branding/distribution). Pro-style range parts are specialty and can cost more. Built-in refrigeration parts share with Whirlpool and are reasonably priced.
What's the warranty on KitchenAid appliances?
Terms vary by model and change over time — check your warranty card or KitchenAid's site for current details. Some components carry extended limited coverage. We can repair the appliance whether it's in or out of warranty.
